Site Conditions

The site is a 5 story mixed use office accommodation in the heart of Washington, Tyne and Wear. The lifts are heavily used due to occupancy levels on the upper floors. Both lifts were installed in the 1980’s they had experienced many breakdowns and given poor reliability to the end users.

These problems were costing the landlord a lot in both financial and good will terms due to the inconvenience caused to tenants of the office facility.

Work Undertaken

Complete electrical upgrade/modernisation solution which included new lift controller, shaft wiring and positioning equipment as well as overhauling the existing lift machine. In addition the lift car interiors were in a very poor condition and following the cosmetic overhaul of both lift interiors the client was “very impressed with the project and commented overall excellent ” from their viewpoint.

Both lifts can now be remotely monitored.

Project Delivery

From receiving our client’s instruction to proceed we managed to source and procure all of the equipment ahead of schedule (25 days from Germany). To minimise inconvenience, our project team ensured that we had one lift operational at all times and we still managed to finish the complete project within 4 weeks which was again ahead of schedule and return both the lifts to service.

Due to the short lead times and quick installation process, the project started and finished ahead of schedule and well within our clients allocated program and budget much to everyone satisfaction.


The lifts are now fully operational and have experienced “zero breakdowns” or issues thus saving the client valuable resources upon completion.

Not only has the lift reliability been greatly improved the lift cars are now unrecognisable from the dated finish that was in place. The lift interiors are now modern with an upgraded car operating panel(digital display panel)white high gloss finished walls, black non slip flooring and LED spot lights, including emergency back-up which we fit as standard.
